Key takeaways
- On most commercial Steelcase projects, the authorized dealer is the team you actually work with. The dealer plans the space, specifies the product, places the order, installs it, and handles service afterward.
- A good dealer starts with design and space planning, not a product list. The specification should follow from how your team works.
- You should be able to sit in the product before you commit. In Southwest Florida, our Fort Myers and Sarasota showrooms carry Steelcase alongside our other lines.
- Ask who installs the furniture and who comes back when something needs adjusting. The answer tells you more about a dealer than the brand on the door.
What "authorized dealer" actually means for your project
Steelcase builds the furniture. For most commercial projects, an authorized dealer is the team that turns that furniture into a working office. The dealer plans the space, specifies the right products, coordinates delivery, installs everything, and stays involved after move-in.
That makes the dealer choice as important as the product choice. Two offices can use the same Steelcase chair and end up with very different results, depending on how well the space was planned and how carefully the product was specified.
We are a Steelcase Authorized Dealer serving Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Sarasota, and Manatee counties.
A dealer should start with the plan, not the catalog
The most useful thing a dealer does happens before anyone prices a product. How many people will use the space, and how? Where does the team need quiet, and where does it need to meet? What has to change in three years, and what has to stay put for ten?
Those answers drive the specification. A team that collaborates all day needs different settings than a team that spends most of its time on focused, private work. Environment shapes behavior. Behavior shapes culture.
This is why our projects begin with space planning and commercial office design. The Steelcase product line is broad, and the plan is what narrows it to the right choices for your space. We wrote about how that narrowing works in practice in how office furniture gets specified.
You should be able to sit in it first
A spec sheet cannot tell you how a chair feels after twenty minutes or how a fabric reads under your office lighting. Seeing product in person is part of a sound specification.
Our Fort Myers and Sarasota showrooms carry Steelcase alongside Kimball and our other lines. Walk-ins are welcome, and we recommend booking an appointment so a member of our team can walk you through options for your project.
Our designers also tour Steelcase's own showroom in Miami's Wynwood district to stay current on the full product range and finish library. That showroom belongs to Steelcase, not to us, and our photos from the visit are in our gallery as reference images, not as project work.
Installation and the years after move-in
Furniture is only as good as its installation. Workstations that are not leveled, panels that are not secured, and chairs that were never adjusted to the people using them all undercut a good specification.
We keep installation in-house, with our own warehouses, our own crews, and dedicated superintendents. The crew that builds your space is the same crew that stands behind it.
The relationship should continue after move-in. Teams grow, departments move, and layouts change. When that happens, the dealer that installed the furniture is well placed to reconfigure it without starting over. Ask for the warranty terms on the specific products in your plan, and read them before you sign.
When Steelcase is not the right answer
A dealer that carries only one line has one answer to every question. We are a Steelcase Authorized Dealer, and we also work with Kimball, OFS, National, Groupe Lacasse, 9to5 Seating, and Teilen architectural walls.
That range matters for an honest specification. Sometimes Steelcase is the right fit for every setting in the plan. Sometimes a lounge area, a casegoods package, or a set of demountable walls is better served by another manufacturer, and a good dealer will tell you so. You can see the full set on our manufacturer partners page.
The work has been recognized by our peers. Connexions, the dealer cooperative we belong to, named us its 2021 Dealer of the Year and its 2024 Member of the Year.
Questions to ask any Steelcase dealer
- Who plans the space? You want designers involved before a product list exists.
- Can I sit in the product locally? A showroom visit should be part of the process, not an extra.
- Who installs it? Ask whether the installers are the dealer's own employees or a subcontractor.
- Who comes back when something needs adjusting? Service after move-in is where dealers differ most.
- What happens when we grow? Ask how the plan handles a reconfiguration in two to five years.
- What else do you carry? A dealer with more than one line can recommend the right product for each setting.
